ITANAGAR, May 16: Nocte Students’ Union and All Tirap Students’ Union (ATSU) have said that insurgency problem in Tirap is stretching far and there seems no way out to end the tension.

The unions while coming down strongly on the two factions of NSCN for posing a threat to security of the common citizens informed that citizens live in an insecure atmosphere. The citizens are insecure and unsure what is going to happen with their lives, the unions said.

The Unions called upon the Chief Minister, Home Minister and 7 MLA’s of Tirap to visit the place immediately to know the ground reality and find out a reasonable solution. It said that drastic actions are needed from the government of Arunachal to ensure security and safety of the people of the district. The Unions said that if the cries for help are left unattended, it would be left with no option but to opt for the democratic movement for the safety of the citizens.
ITANAGAR, May 16: At least five people died in a tragic car accident near Holongi on May 12 last. The accident occurred when the vehicle with the passengers coming from Seppa to Itanagar fell into deep gorge near Holongi in Papum Pare district.
The deceased have been identified as Yajo Taku, Palla Taku(Tawe), Hoping Taku student of class X, Yami Hissang and her 15 year old son.

SBI branch in Pasighat
ITANAGAR, May 16: Former MP Nyodek Yonggam has appealed to the assistant general manager, SBI regional office, Itanagar to open one more SBI branch in Pasighat town in order to mitigate the suffering of the bank consumers.
Yonggam in a letter to the SBI bank authority said that the present SBI office with its poor banking facilities has failed to serve the increasing number of customers.
The bank customers stand in long queue even before the bank counter, but, sometimes, they have to leave the bank with utter frustration as the bank employees do not deliver business within stipulated time, he said.
There should be separate counters for senior citizens and pensioners in the bank, he added.
Two ATM booths in town remain out of order most of the time, Yonggam said and appealed for installation of two more ATM booths in prime locations in Pasighat town.
Hospitality training for hoteliers
ITANAGAR, May 16: Bomdila Hotel and Restaurant Association (BH&RA) in its meeting held on May 13 at Bomdila unanimously decided to nominate 25 trainees from among the Bomdila hoteliers and restaurateurs to undergo three months hospitality training under the state tourism department. The meeting also discussed various problems being confronted by the hotel industries.

ITANAGAR, May 16: A one day awareness training programme on organic cultivation of Tea was organized at Ronie Tea Estate, Karsingsa today organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Small Tea Growers Association (APSTGA).
The programme was attended by Tokong Pertin, Director, Trade and Commerce, S. Modi, Deputy Director, Trade and Commerce along with Association members former MLA Bao Tamo, Tadak Gab (President), Nabam Nikia (Vice President) and Shri Sompha Wangsa (General Secretary) and 50 small tea farmers from Papum Pare, Kurung Kumey and Upper Subansiri districts.

ITANAGAR, May 16: M.L.A cum Parliamentary Secretary Thinghap Taiju, along with All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union Eastern Zone, Zonal Secretary Sanu Tamang flagged off an Ambulance at Changlang today.
The Ambulance is being provided by the Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for the welfare of workers.
Addressing the gathering Taiju urged the workers to maintain good relation with the co workers and appreciated APB&OCWWB Chairman Jalley Sonam and MLA Padi Richo for their dedication towards the welfare of grass root level people.
He also remembered former chief minister Dorjee Khandu and his Government’s welfare activities towards the workers on the occasion.

Orgs reacts at the attack on media,
decries TOI report
ITANAGAR, May 16: Arunachal Citizens’ Rights (ACR) has said that the photographs of the damages done to the Arunachal Front Office and Arunachal Press club carried in the local dailies today is shocking and direct threat to the press fraternity.
There is no authority to control the law and order situation in the state which is very unfortunate, it said while condemning the repeated verbal as well as physical assault on the press fraternity in Arunachal Pradesh.
ACR further said that holding the Arunachal Press Club responsible for the report published in Times of India is uncalled for and unfortunate. The press in Arunachal cannot be held responsible for the contents in other newspapers, it said.
The ACR further questioned why the news conference of All Nyishi students unions was not published in the newspapers in the state.
However, ACR appealled one and all to shun violent methods and to adopt democratic means to short out any disputes and to have faith in the law of the land.
It also appealed the Govt. to provide proper security to the media fraternity and to assure them that such untoward incident would not occur again so that media institution can function without fear of any threats from anybody.
Meanwhile, ACR urged the new government to prove the source of reports of Pradeep Thakur at the earliest so that justice is delivered to Nyishis in particular and state as a whole.
Meanwhile, blaming the reporter of a national daily, Times of India, Pradeep Thakur for present fiasco in local media, Tarh Welfare Society has said that the whole issue emerged because of the report in ToI which hurt the sentiment of the local people.
The society also condemned the destruction of Arunachal Front and PTI offices in state Capital while stating that the local media is passing through a dangerous trend as the freedom of press is almost suppressed in the state. It also lamented over the fact that journalists were assaulted several times in the past, but no accused has been arrested yet.

ToT on Planning and Implementation
of SGSY
ITANAGAR, MAY 16: Five days training of trainers on planning and implementation of SGSY begins from today at SIRD, Itanagar. The programme is being conducted by SIRD, Itanagar in collaboration with Action Aid Society, Papunallah and BDO, Doimukh.
Director SIRD Nyabin Ete, in his inaugural address said that NGO can play vital role for the success of SHGs in the state, which is very successful in other states. He suggested the SHG leaders to learn the management of loan properly and so that loan could be repaid timely unlike erstwhile programme like IRDP and DWCRA which could not be successful because of lack of understanding on loan repayment. He also said that for the empowerment of rural poor and women, Govt. is India strengthening the SHGs by restructuring the SGSY into NRLM (National Rural Livelihood Mission). However, it’s implementation is yet to start in Arunachal.
Besides Faculties of SIRD, Resource Person from NABARD, DRDA, AASA and BDO Doimukh are giving deliberations on Grading of SHGs, Status of SGSY in Papumpare, Formation and strengthening of SHGs, Financing SHGs under SGSY, etc. The team will visit the best SHGs in Gohpur and Biswanath Chariali and organise social mobilisation campaign on formation and strengthening of SHGs at Poma Village on May 19th & 20th respectively.

Aalo, May 16: Ten days in service Training Programme for SSA teachers got underway at Govt. H.S.S. Auditorium from today. All SSA teachers from West District are taking part in training prog that will continue up to 25th of May next.
The 10 day long Training Programme will touch wide range of issues like concept of number system, teaching techniques, concept of force and pressure, behavioral problems of school children, child psychology, adolescence education, lesson planning.
West Siang ADC Kanki Darang urged the teaching community to take up the training seriously to build up their professional skills and stressed on effective education delivery system to fulfill the national mission of Education for all in the years to come. The seeds of education are in the hands of teachers and various methodologies of teachings and learning cannot be successful without training from time to time, he said.
The DDSE Nyage Potom, Principal Govt. H.S.School, Bango Palon also elaborated in detail about the present day need of education system for the overall development of children and insisted on more commitments among the teachers.

ITANAGAR, May 16: Two week long training on Basic computer application course commenced at Administrative Training Institute, Naharlagun today.
Altogether, 28 trainees (LDCs, UDCs and office assistants) from different departments are attending the training programme.
Director of Science and Technology and Remote Sensing SD Sarkar attended the programme as chief guest. He highlighted the importance of computer knowledge in office management and advised the participants to inculcate sincerity, honesty towards their duties and responsibilities and prompt work culture in offices and organization to improve the sagging work moral of government officials.
Earlier, Course coordinator cum Deputy Director (trg) T Lodo emphasized upon the need for computer education for all government functionaries particularly at the lowest and middle level to cope with the present day work culture in computer system.

Stop illegal timber business
ITANAGAR, May 16: Dazzelling, which is known as one of the paradise for Orchids in West Kameng district has become a hub of illegal timber business said All Hrusso (Aka) Students’ Union in a release today.
It alleged that the forest department is engaging their patrolling team in road sides only whereas most of the illegal timber depot and merciless cutting of trees are taking place inside the deep jungle illegally.
Strongly opposing the illegal log cutting and in order to preserve natural vegetation, it appealed to the forest department to initiate immediate steps to stop such illegal timber business in the area.
It also appealed to the authorities of Khellong Forest Division to intensify their patrolling team within their jurisdiction to prevent illegal timber business.
AIPU appeals
ITANAGAR, May 16: Arunachal Indigenous People’s Union (AIPU) reminding the Govt of its memorandum for renaming of state library after luminary late Lummer Dai in recognition of his contribution in the field of literature, hoped that the new Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin will fulfil the demand of the union. Health Worker camp at Khonsa
ITANAGAR, May 16: Three days Health Worker Training Camp organized at Khonsa, Tirap by Vivekananda Kendra, Arun Jyoti successfully concluded on May 15.
14 youths from Tirap, Changlang and East Siang participated in the residential camp held at Kendra’s Bank Colony centre. Dr.K.Matey (M.O.), Dr.P.Rakshit (S.M.O.), Dr.S.Roy(S.M.O.) Dr.D.Adhikari(M.O. VKAJ)and other paramedical staffs of District Hospital ,Khonsa took the technical sessions and practical sessions.
It is to be mentioned that the mobile medical van of Arun Jyoti with their own Doctor covers 12 villages of Tirap district and conduct regular medical camps and awareness activities.
Poor quality works resented
ITANAGAR, May 16: All Arunachal Contractors Welfare Association (AACWA), Lower Subansiri district unit has appealed to all departments of the state to invite tender for quality implementation of the central and state sponsored schemes in the district as per norms.
Alleging nepotism and favouritism in distribution of works, the Association claimed that many schemes have not been implemented properly with the quality as the works were distributed to inexperienced and unqualified contractors.

ITANAGAR: All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union (AAPWU) HQ informed that one Sunil Tati, working under PHED division under Dura Nalla under Tezu circle was mercilessly beaten up without any provocations on May 14.
Tati was beaten so severely that he had to be admitted in the hospital and is undergoing treatment.
In this regard FIR was lodged against one Thalumso Tindya by the AAPWU Lohit district unit at Police Station Tezu.

‘Talar deserves to be awarded incentive’
Dear Editor,
Honoring the meritorious (medal winning) sportspersons with cash incentive by the State Government is highly commendable. It would not only financially benefit the poor sportsman and women but also boost up their morale in making a big stride in the field of games and sports. I, being a sports lover and fan, express my sincere thanks to the Government for granting incentives to them.
But at the same time, what made me surprise while awarding cash incentive is the omission of the name of upcoming badminton player Laa Talar from the list of awardees.
Talar, currently ranked first in boys double in U-
It is well understood from his achievement that he deserves to be awarded incentives.
But the state Govt. has ignored him from what he deserved in spite of submitting his field records (performance) to the department concerned.
I, therefore, on behalf of All Pade Youth Welfare Association requests the authorities concerned to look into the matter seriously and consider Talar for incentive by taking into account his consistent performance in the last several years.

Dear Editor,
Apropos the letter "Do some community service" (14 May), it is really humbling to know that the "Concerned Reader" is really so concerned about me!
My recent letters, which protested against Hindi imperialism and Sumon Das's cruel
and baseless comments revolving Rabindranath Tagore, appear to be "useless" and "uninteresting"
in the eyes of the "Concerned Reader"! Firstly, what is "useless" to one may be "useful"
for another; "uninteresting" to one is "interesting" to another. A bicycle might
be useless for an urban nouveau-
Chess might be an uninteresting sport for one, but a fodder of thought for another. So, who will determine which/what is useful/useless, interesting/uninteresting and what is the yardstick for determining the degree of "utility" or "interest"? Secondly, henceforth will I have to shun my independent thoughts and write only those letters which would "interest" the "Concerned Reader"?
The "Concerned Reader" has no objection if Mr. Das is not interested in reading Tagore's
poems or if yours truly do not want to speak in Hindi! It's also OK for me if Tagore's
poems do not interest Mr. Das. But he simply holds no business in bad-
So I will continue with my protest if Mr. Das do not refrain from Tagore-

Same treatment for all
Dear Editor,
The news article of one Pradeep Thakur of Times of India which mentioned Nyishi tribe in poor image has really hurt every Arunachalee. In Times of India, it was only in the web version. The same line was published in the printed version of Deccan Chronicle (Thursday, 5th May) which is one of the leading news paper of southern India. If the person responsible for publishing the news item on TOI is taken to task, the person responsible for publishing it in the Deccan Chronicle too must be given the same treatment.
We have never seen any media person from these two dallies in Itanagar or any other parts of Arunachal. We need to know the person responsible for the whole episode.

Fuel hike and prices of essential commodities
Dear Editor,
I would like to criticize the rising prices of petrol. Within 24 hours of state election results oil companies increased petrol prices by Rs 5 a litre, the steepest ever hike. This is the seventh time in 11 months that petrol prices have gone up and are set to upset household budgets, already reeling under the burden of higher food costs and loan installments.
Petrol and Diesel are components of CPI basket (they have large weight around 19%). Increase in the price of any will certainly have a major effect on inflation. It will cause automatic and unprecedented rise in prices of all commodities in Arunachal Pradesh hitting hard the common people.

I would like to thank NE TV Guwahati for its crucial role in updating minutes by minutes happening at Itanagar and Selapass whereas national TVs were only focusing on Bin laden’s death as if world would collapse without him.
At the time of state emergency when our beloved CM's choppers mysteriously went missing, NE TV kept us informed and updated. It was also a time to introspect on the need to have our own Arunachal TV channel. Brothers and sisters time has ripened.
